"I bought a one-year old used car at this Avis location. I am very pleased with the car. The buying process wasn't ideal, but I still felt like the price I paid was fair, although it wasn't great. First, what was good.... The best part of my experience was that I got a great car that I am pleased with. The salesman was top notch and I would recommend Hugo to anyone interested in finding a relatively new car. The selection of late model vehicles was very good. While this used car lot itself is rather confined in space, we got our choice among many great models. The prices as advertised and marked on the vehicles are very competitive and a few looked like true bargains, like the model I bought. What I did not like about the process.. the prices get jacked up by an assortment of high fees that get revealed later. It was as bad as going to a new car dealership, with all the nonsense. $400 for electronic registration? I had a trade-in and my new car want going to incur Florida's new-car-on-the-road penalty, which would be in the hundreds of dollars. All I needed was a simple tag transfer. No, the fee stays at $400, I was told. Then $899 for doc fees? They should show this as $899 for pure profit. Then the most insulting was $599 for OPTIONAL paint and fabric protection. I stated I did not want this or anything optional. I was told it was already applied. Then, it's NOT optional, and is part of the as-is condition of the car, which should be part of the retail price I was paying. I argued this point, but the only way to get the car I wanted was to concede $599 for this "optional" item which was not optional. It should have shown $599 for more greedy profit. After agreeing to all the non-sense, I was ready to write the check. I was then told I couldn't do that. I had to then drive to my credit union and get a cashier's check, which was extra time and money. I have always purchased cars from dealerships that trusted me a whole lot more than Avis did. It was humiliating to have to get a cashier's check to buy a car because of their policy in place. Overall, I'm happy with the car, but the experience with Avis I found frustrating. Avis calls themselves the Aldi of used car sales. That part is not completely true. Both Avis and Aldi have very good retail prices. However, Aldi doesn't jack up the price or pull a surprise when I'm ready to pay. Avis does this and is part of their bag of tricks, just like many other dealerships."
